The Parent’s Guide to Game Day Etiquette: Supporting Our Stars

At Vallejo Little League, we strive to create a positive, safe, and encouraging environment for our baseball and softball players. Whether your child is 4 or 13, your conduct in the stands sets the tone for their experience on the field.

Here is how you can help make every game day a home run for our community:

1. Let the Coaches Coach

Our coaches are volunteers who dedicate their time to teaching the game.

• Avoid shouting instructions from the stands. Conflicting advice can confuse players and undermine the coach’s strategy.
• If you have concerns, wait 24 hours after a game to discuss them privately with the coach or contact our Player Agent.

2. Respect the Umpires

Umpires are human and will make mistakes. Many of our umpires are also youth volunteers learning the craft.

• Verbal abuse or "heckling" of umpires is strictly prohibited.
• Remember: Without umpires, we cannot play the game.

3. Cheer for Everyone

Positive reinforcement is the most powerful tool for player development.

• Cheer for great plays made by both teams.
• Keep comments encouraging. Instead of "Don't strike out," try "You've got this!"

4. Keep the Complex Clean

We take pride in our facilities. Please help us maintain them by:

• Disposing of all trash in the provided bins.
• Ensuring your player’s dugout is clean before leaving.
• Reporting any maintenance issues to our Field Prep team.

5. Be Mindful of the "Little League" Spirit

The primary goal of VLL is to build character, courage, and loyalty.

• No Alcohol or Tobacco: These are strictly prohibited at all Little League events and facilities.
• Punctuality: Arrive on time so your player can warm up safely and coaches can set their lineups.

6. Get Involved

The best way to understand the game is to be part of it! We are always looking for help with:

• Scorekeeping
• Snack Shack shifts
• Field Prep

If you have questions or want to learn more about our league standards, feel free to join us at our monthly board meetings. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6pm at the American Legion Post 550 (420 Admiral Callaghan Ln).
