Understanding League Age

At Vallejo Little League, we offer baseball and softball programs for children ages 4-13. To ensure fair play and safety, Little League International uses a "League Age" system to determine which division a player is eligible for each season

Because the determination dates differ between baseball and softball, your child's League Age may not match their current chronological age .

Baseball League Age

For the baseball program, League Age is determined by the child's actual age on August 31 of the current year

  • 2026 Season Example: If a player was born in January 2015, they will be 11 years old on August 31, 2026. Their League Age is 11
  • 2026 Season Example: If a player was born in December 2015, they will still be 10 years old on August 31, 2026. Their League Age is 10

Softball League Age

For the softball program, League Age is determined by the child's actual age on December 31 of the previous year

  • 2026 Season Example: A player's League Age is how old they were on December 31, 2025

Why Does This Matter?

League Age determines the division placement (such as Tee Ball, Minors, or Majors) to ensure players compete against others of similar developmental levels .
