Board Spotlight: The Player Agent – The Heart of Fair Play
In our series exploring the roles that keep Vallejo Little League running, we start with a position that is often considered the second-most important on the board: the Player Agent
While the President oversees the league as a whole, the Player Agent is the primary advocate for the players themselves. Their mission is to ensure that every child, from ages 4 to 13, has a fair, safe, and positive experience on the field
.
What Does the Player Agent Do?
The Player Agent’s responsibilities span from the first day of registration to the final out of the tournament season:
Eligibility and Registration: They work with the President to verify player ages and residency, ensuring everyone is in the correct division according to Little League regulations
Player Evaluations and Drafts: The Player Agent conducts tryouts and oversees the player selection process (the draft) to ensure teams are balanced and the process remains free of conflicts
Roster Management: They monitor team rosters throughout the season to ensure all players are treated equally and that managers are following league rules regarding playing time
The "Pool Player" System: If a team is short on players for a game, the Player Agent manages a pool of eligible players to fill in, ensuring games aren't forfeited and kids get more chances to play
Tournament Teams: As we move into All-Stars, the Player Agent certifies the eligibility of players for tournament play, a vital step for our league’s post-season success
Why This Role Matters to You
The Player Agent acts as a neutral party. Because they are tasked with the unbiased management of all players, they are often the best point of contact for parents who have concerns about team placement, player safety, or fair treatment
In Vallejo, our Player Agent is dedicated to making sure the "Little League" spirit of character and courage is felt by every child on every team.
